The use of animal fat for the production of biodiesel has been approved as per EU regulations 92/2005 and further versions, 2067/2005, 1678/2006 and 1576/2007. The highest veterinary authority within the EU (EFSA) has assessed the health-related aspects and found the production and use of biodiesel to be a very safe method of recycling.
The demands governing the use of by-products from the production process are identical to the rules concerning animal by-products as a whole. When using Category 1 material, this means that by-products must be put to use through incineration, while by-products from Category 2 and 3 materials may be used for a range of other purposes - including in the oleo-chemical industry. Daka Biodiesel is working to ensure a wider application of by-products from the processing of Category 1 animal fat. For a more detailed description of the individual veterinary categories, please go to www.daka.dk.
We expect that the glycerine may be used for bio gasification in biogas plants or for co-incineration in boiler plants. We will seek to use the potassium sulphate as fertilizer, or pass it on to the cement industry if required by the veterinary authorities. |
